Later this afternoon we learned that Dr. Maya Angelou, was selected for transition at her home early this morning in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Born Marguerite Annie Johnson April 4, 1928, she was an author, activist, advocate, poet, world leader, professor and homegrown Queen of the African Diaspora World.

I still remember my Mother gifting me my first copy of I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings. She promised me that the book would inspire me and of course my Mother was correct.  You see, by turning me on, my Mother used the well chosen prose of Dr. Angelou in this American classic novel to formally introduce me to to the vast expanse of realities and possibilities in life, for women who looked like Me, My Mother and Dr. Angelou.

In the novel I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings, I learned to recognize, appreciate, celebrate the contributions and signifiers that represent expressions of the African Diaspora experience both in America and globally.

Like the ingenuity expressed in these images of the Urban Cyclist, that were captured earlier on this day, before I learned about Dr. Angelou’s transition.

While driving along on a short cut, out the corner of my eye I noticed the tricked out bike. Wow, such creativity, gilded gold coin decoration attachments.

Recognize and check the dexterity and balance, as the Urban Cyclist makes his way safely to deliver the contents of his box. Around the corner and down the hill, onward to his destiny. A casual glimpse of what goes on in other people’s lives. Another angle at the intersection LIFE on Earth and Creative Expression.
