We met Januwa this past July at the African American Artist and Abstraction gathering in Havana Vieja, after she rocked the crowd with her wearable art fashion showcase. The program was dedicated to Sun Ra, the featured theme was Space is the Place.

A rich and savory memory, the space was crowded, sweltering hot, July 31st at the Africa House in Old Havana will never be the same. Extended runway, fabric, colors, Excellent Music! Were we impressed!! Everyone had cameras up. SIMPLY FABULOUS!!!

After the show we expressed our praises. Ever gracious, Januwa advised us that her work along with seven other fiber artists, would be featured in the Brides of Anansi exhibition at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, September 4 – December 6, 2014.

Honoring our African American Artist and Abstraction kinship, we happily came out to see and celebrate with our Sisters at the exhibition opening for Brides of Anansi. The collection is Inspiring, Joyous, Progressive. At the reception we met Januwa’s teacher, daughter, loyal friends and like them we too were glad to cheer and have a good time.
