OUTSIDE MY WINDOW – HABANA VIEJA
OBSERVATION ON THE BUILD ENVIRONMENT
Dec. 14, 2015 – Good Morning
Habana Vieja has some of the very coolest buildings in La Habana.
Living in a commercial building looking outside my window my gaze bears witness to life, work, love, play in public space.
Mixed with the reality of ongoing modernization construction projects peppered all over Old Havana, striking a balance between convenience, comfort and architectural beauty can be Sticky, sticky. Yet worth the adventure.
In the summer of 2014 when we attended “African American Arts and Abstraction – Convergence en La Habana” to our good fortune, we stumbled across a real gem, two bedroom apartment, piso 1.
It is nothing for me to get to my door, only to find anoher traveler with their neck craned up to read the sign with cubacel movil contact fastened to the balcony railing advertising “apartment for rent”.
I love this apartment, construction noise, trash, debris, stairs and all.
Since the public announcement of diplomatic normalization process, the pace has jumped to acceleration mode.
Most fascinating is the excited American tourist, undeterred.
CAMERA IN HAND
Sensory overload. Taken by the scale of difference between what is and what isn’t.
Reconciliation of the imagination and reality. Amazed by life on the real edge.
Whether standing in the street or in a pile of garbage, la yuma documents the moment.
Wow. It has been a marvel to witness the change.
Thank you 2015.
