The U.S. election upset was in the news. At a routine check point, soldiers had jokes for my U.S. Passport.

The next day when sharing the jokes with Mr. Honey Muse, he said that Trump jokes were not funny.

Well in hindsight, guess not perhaps one week after was still too soon.

Blessed to be living outside the country. Enjoying the luxury of looking from the outside IN.

Douala to Yaoundé

December 25th, 2016 by admin Categories: Cameroon Architecture, Cameroun, Destinations, Field Study Research, Jengu Health Traditions, Mobile, Public History Programming No Responses

First Sunday in Cameroon – Day 4

Road trip: Douala to Yaoundé

On the road Next stop Yaoundé

On the road.
Next stop Yaoundé.

The days were full; movement in the day, meetings and lessons at night.

In total the journey on the ground was a full 26 days. Information overload was the norm.

Some days I was nodding during lessons, but trust I was paying attention.

Twenty six days of growth and learning. Cultural immersion at its best.

My mantra was, I Am In Africa.

Saying I Am In Africa once a day, always with smile, helped to keep my teeth white.

Lol!

Yaoundé. There is a six hour time difference between the East coast and Cameroon, which means that since arriving my sleep has been choppy. You know, I fall asleep on EST but still wake up in local time with everyone else. Or I fall asleep at reasonable local time, then wake up at EST evening time. Jet lag is a a beast, but I did take a cat nap though, on the drive to Yaoundé. Yet despite the resetting of my body clock, I am hanging tough. This picture was taken at the FENAC Festival. Wow, Wonderful, WOW!!! Great atmosphere, fabulous Art, excellent live music and beautiful people. So I posed with the sculptures of the Mother and the Invisible Lady. Yeah, I was diggin' everything about this FENAC Festival scene. After the festival we went for a Sunday evening visit with our Padrino. Then to the grill space for dinner. Diaspora Journeys Project – Cameroun 2016

The Measure: May 21, 2016

Because we live our lives in the here and now, everything no matter how strange, everything seems like it is just so absolute, simple, plain, normal. But what is normal though, or plain, or simple?

Getting to Africa is not easy. Which I guess matches how getting from Africa to U.S. was not easy either.

Get this, do that, buy this, take that, go here do this, change that. Too much is required just to get back. Final destination Douala, Cameroun.

IMG_2796

The Measure: June 8, 2016

I have seen Cameroun Afrika and my gracious, she is BEAUTIFUL.

Culture. Heritage. Traditions. Jengu.

The Cinnamon Traveler Journeys Project.

Third day home.

Attended local NPU meeting, but had to leave the scene early.

Jet lag is a beast.

Ivory tower wars are vicious.

Factor into all equations that every 2 in x number of people are liars.

Water seeks its own level.

The journey was incredible.

IMG_3603

The Measure: June 21, 2016

By the way, I found my calendar.

It was inside my laundered canvas travel bag, which was hanging on the back of my dining room chair. Don’t ask.

The week that I left for the Cameroun, this is the We’Moon calendar affirmation poem.

The poem perfectly captures the energy of wanderlust and the life of the committed traveler.

We arrived on the continent on May 25, 2016 African Liberation Day.

The poem matches my journey.

( ! applause ! )

Nothing is a coincidence.

“How Miraculous that I Have Fire in My Pocket”

Forget the computer I turned off as I left the library,

the cellphone I can set to buzz instead of ring,

the motion sensor light-switch that came on automatically

in the bathroom, the copier that reproduced my pages. Forget

Blackberries, iPods, YouTube, water-filters, flash-drives,

the Subaru ready to run like forty horses. Forget

DVDs, CDs, mp3s, tiny packages of instant green tea.

Consider I can flick the flint on the ridged steel wheel.

Consider the flame that rises with the butane.

Hunker amidst sticks & dry pine needles; consider

instantaneous blaze, combustion like a tiny sun,

friction, heat, patience, food, endurance, shelter. Consider

dark matter that comprises more than we could ever light

with all our soft skulled organs set to skillful brilliance.

Every day we set our small miracles against the world.

Every time we hold our breath and intentionally pause.

Every element, monitor, pump, bite, bit; every

shoelace, buttonhole, zipper, hood, loom; every

satellite, remix, website, basket, firelight; every

moment we wake up and crawl out of our caves to gather

so much more than it is possible to ever carry home.

@Mara Eve 2008

Signed,

Incredibly blessed and still amazed.

Hotep.

All love and soul power.
